You may be asked to convert seconds into minutes and minutes into hours (or the other way around).

60 seconds = 1 minute

60 minutes = 1 hour

It is often best to do this using 'chunks' of 60.

​

251 seconds = 4 minutes and 11 seconds.

(60 + 60 + 60 + 60 + 11 = 251)

​

142 minutes = 2 hours and 22 minutes

(60 + 60 + 22 = 142)

You may also be asked to work out how long it is from one time to another. This can also be done in chunks.

e.g. How long is it from 8:50 am to 11:15 am?

​

From 8:50 am to 10:50 am is 2 hours.

From 10:50 am to 11:00 am is 10 minutes.

From 11:00 am to 11:15 am ia 15 minutes.

​

2 hours + 10 minutes + 15 minutes = 2 hours, 25 minutes.
